There's nothing like browsing a local bookstore. And there are some fantastic bookstores in town. So I have to share some incredible bookstores with you so you can visit them whenever you get a chance. Here are three of my favorites.

Left Bank Books

Left Bank Books opened in 1969 by a group of graduate students at Washington University who wanted to create a place where one could find all kinds of literature. We are the oldest and largest independently-owned full-line bookstore in St. Louis, and we offer a full-line of new and used books, gifts, cards, magazines, toys and services. We've grown and changed throughout our 50 years, but our mission still remains the same – to spark public conversation by curating an intelligent, relevant, culturally diverse selection of books.

There are events at Left Bank Books all the time. Some are virtual and many are in person, so I definitely recommend looking at the events calendar for Left Bank Books. For example, there are six--yes six--events taking place on July 7th alone. If you're a book lover, I highly recommend you check out Left Bank Books.

Want to browse through some good books and take a few home? This place is great for finding a gem. Step in off the street and check it out. Bring your pet too! Their friendly atmosphere is the finishing touch on this nice neighborhood shop. Gerry N.

Subterranean Books

Subterranean Books is a smaller store that focues on fiction, essays, poetry, music, science, nature, history, children’s, cultural studies, and memoirs. They also have journals, t-shirts, cards, pins, tote bags, and more. Subterranean Books does not, however, stock any used books. They feature new books. Subterranean Books recently moved to 6271 Delmar, which is just two doors down from its old location.

I was at Blueprint Coffee in the Loop and walked by Subterranean Books - What a find!!!!
The bookstore is wonderful with a great variety of subjects, selection and knowledgeable staff in a traditional bookstore layout. The presentation of books was inviting with what appeared to a focus on books that probably don't get the display they deserve in large bookstores. I bought three but could have bought a dozen. I would add Subterranean Books to our list of the great independent bookstores we have discovered in the country. John P.

The Novel Neighbor

The Novel Neighbor is not like any other book store out there. It is based on a unique concept as it is a space that carries new adult and childrens’ books, as well as unique works from local St. Louis artists. In addition there is also a community space for book clubs, classes, author events, after-school activities, tastings, parties, showers, and more! This store is the kind of place you can easily spend a few hours without realizing it. If you're ever on Big Bend Blvd., you must visit this store.

The Novel Neighbor is packed full of books and bookish gifts and has a great atmosphere to just hang out and peruse some of the great finds. Staff recommendations abound and the people working in the store are personable, knowledgeable, and very, very helpful. Holly K.
Those are my three favorite bookstores in town. Do you have any more book stores that you recommend in town?
