Mindfulness for Resilience of Business Leaders

Mindfulness help business leaders keep things in the right perspective and context. They depict a resilient and unflappable disposition even in the middle of critical situations.

I came across the concept of mindfulness in the midst of the crisis in my profession.

As a technology leader in large business organizations, my stress level was over the top.

I was studying cognitive science as a part-time basis but there was little research about mindfulness on those days. The term was emerging and it was associated with religion and spirituality.

Nowadays, mindfulness is a widely researched and well-understood topic in leadership domain and business environments.

I made a conscious effort to learn about mindfulness and tried to apply it to my profession. In my opinion, all business leaders need mindfulness, but technical and technology leaders may need mindfulness more than any other type of leaders due to the additional stresses they have in their lives. This is due to the rapidly changing complex technologies spreading across work environments.

Based on my research, I discovered that mindfulness can enable technical and technology leaders to become emotionally intelligent.

Emotionally intelligent mindful leaders demonstrate empathy, compassion, and acceptance.

During my studies, my observations revealed that mindful leaders behave confidently and develop healthy work relationships.

It was eye-opening to witness mindful leaders who can cope with massive stress caused by hectic workplace obligations, volatile business situations, and ever-changing technologies effectively.

My interest in mindfulness grew substantially.

The resilience of business leaders was a topic I was studying with passion.

I observed that unflappable attitudes of mindful business leaders were inspirational to team members.

These resilient business leaders were showing up as role models in coping with stress in their teams. There was something different in their behaviour. The way they approach situations were remarkable.

What was more striking was the hidden abilities that most of us cannot see with corporate eyes. After deep diving the topic with close observations, interactions, and interviews, I noticed that mindful business leaders developed strong intuitions due to clarity they generate in their minds.

Mindfulness appeared to re-wire their brain.

This was the perfect topic for my cognitive science studies. I wanted to enter into their brain and obtain a map of those esoteric parts.

From scientific perspectives, the only observable phenomena were attention and focus.

Thought my intensive research into mindfulness, I learned that mindfulness improves one’s attention and focus. The mindful business leaders were more productive and creative by focusing on the things that matter for their goals and plans.

By using mindfulness, these business leaders were capable of eliminating distractions and sharpening their mental power for essential matters to achieve their aspirations and transformational goals in large business organisations.

I created profiles and examples to shed lights on the topic.

To exemplify the importance of mindfulness for business leaders, I observed them closely in paradoxical situations at work. Let me give you an example from the findings.

When a disaster happened in a business production system, affecting thousands of users due to a system and an application failure, one business leader was calm and composed, but another leader was agitated and disturbed.

This difference in behaviour was apparent to the whole team. People were wondering what the difference between two types of leaders responding differently to the same situation. Since I studied the topic, observed and interacted with these business leaders, the answer was clear to me. The impact of mindfulness of the business leaders was an observable experience in the workplace.

I found out that mindfulness helped these business leaders keep things in the right perspective and context. They depicted this position even in the middle of a critical situation.

Attention and focus on the right perspective provided these business leaders clarity for seeing the right context. This positive behaviour also aligned people resources and brought them on the same page.

Their remarkable attitudes united people resources for mutual goals and directed their attention to the right context. Staying connected in the right context is a prime position to be in for transformations to happen.

Being mindful and acting with emotional intelligence make the leaders calm, composed, and unflappable during critical situations.

With these magical benefits of mindfulness for business leaders, they were able to communicate better, act better, obtain better support, and produce better outcomes collectively.
