Politicians should have a good relationship with their bordering neighbors. But in the case with Texas Governor Greg Abbott that isn’t always the case.

Last year, as Governor Abbott was running for his third term in office, Mexico President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said not to vote for him.

Governor Abbott won his third term in office beating Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke.

According to The Hill, President Obrador said:

“If there’s a candidate from a party that mistreats immigrants and Mexicans, we’re going to ask our countrymen there that they don’t vote for that candidate or party.”

Abbott’s immigration policies have not felt welcomed by Mexico’s president who feels the governor does not treat immigrants fairly.

Regarding the border wall along the Rio Grande, Governor Abbott was told to remove the water barrier by the Department of Justice. In addition, a local business owner is suing him to remove it.

Abbott refuses to remove the water barrier.

Governor Abbott was defending his decision and according to Fox News said:

"I will do whatever I have to do to defend our state from the invasion of the Mexican drug cartels and others who have tried to come into our country illegally, and I will protect our sovereignty."

Over the past two years, Governor Abbott has bussed migrants who crossed the Texas-Mexican border to sanctuary cities including Washington, D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles. Abbott first did this to show the problem Texas was facing as migrants were crossing the border illegally.

Abbott’s decision to bus migrants has brought a lot of negative comments from people including the Democratic Party.

Governor Abbott’s decisions have also angered his southern neighbor, President Obrador.

Do you think Governor Abbott should try to improve relations with Mexican President Obrador?
