The Justice Department didn’t waste time as they sued Governor Greg Abbott on Monday, July 24. The Biden administration said Texas could avoid a lawsuit if they removed the water barriers that Governor Abbott started placing along the Rio Grande River.

The lawsuit states the 1,000-foot line of orange, ball-sized buoys raises humanitarian and environmental concerns.

Governor Abbott argued that Rivers and Harbors Appropriation Act doesn't apply to Texas' actions, adding that while he shares the administration's concern for migrants' welfare, Biden's “finger points in the wrong direction.”

    Abbott wrote:

“Neither of us wants to see another death in the Rio Grande River. Yet your open-border policies encourage migrants to risk their lives by crossing illegally through the water, instead of safely and legally at a port of entry. Nobody drowns on a bridge.”
In a statement, White House spokesman Abdullah Hasan supported President Biden’s border policies. He added that Governor Abbott’s “dangerous and unlawful actions are undermining that effective plan."

According to Hasan, Governor Abbott’s actions were:

"Making it hard for the men and women of Border Patrol to do their jobs of securing the border, and putting migrants and border agents in danger.”

Governor Abbott doesn’t plan to remove the water barrier and Texas will go to court against the Biden administration.

He responded on X formerly Twitter that you can see here.

    Second lawsuit filed

This lawsuit was not the only one Governor Abbott received on Monday. San Antonio sued Texas over the passage of the Death Star Bill or House Bill 2127 giving Texas legal rights over city and county law.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg said:

“We do not intend to meekly surrender our community’s right to self-govern.”
