Governor Greg Abbott is planning to spend more time and effort to get the border wall finished. The border wall was started during the Trump administration. Now that Abbott assigned a Texas czar, finishing the border wall will be one of his duties.

Last month, Governor Abbott assigned former Texas Border Patrol Agent Mike Banks as the Texas Czar on immigration.

Abbott said Banks will have his office in the town of Weslaco, in the Rio Grande Valley.

Banks said:

“As long as we can get property owners to allow us to build that would be the hope — to connect.”

The cost of building the wall is estimated at $25 million per mile.

Governor Abbott said:

“The reason why this wall is located here and the reason why you will see other segments of well placed in different locations around the state is because we are putting wall up where we get the land rights from the land owner to be able to build a border wall.”
“Most of the land on the border is private property. And we have to get the rights when the private property owners to build a border wall in those segments. You’ll see more of these going up.”

Former Acting Commissioner of Customs and Border Protection Mark Morgan said last week:

“Let's keep in mind that the Biden administration literally left hundreds of thousands of pounds of border wall sitting there unused that the taxpayers already funded. They halted construction of access roads, of state-of-the-art technology, lighting and other surveillance platforms.

Wyoming Senator Planned to Fund Texas Border Wall But it Failed

Last month, Republican Senator Larry Hicks submitted a bill to help southern states build a wall along the Mexican border. When it came up for vote, it failed.

Senator Hicks said:

“When the federal government fails to do their fiduciary duty to protect our borders, it is incumbent on the states to step up and protect our United States of America’s border.”
The funding would have provided $3 million to Governor Abbott to fund the wall and transport migrants to sanctuary states.

Do you think the border wall will get completed under Governor Abbott's current term in office?
