More Migrants are Reaching the State of Florida This Year

Just a few weeks ago, the State of Florida was in a crisis as migrants closed down the Dry Torgus National Park close to Miami. But the crisis didn't end there are more migrants who continued to arrive this month. Last year in 2022, Florida saw 13,357 migrants arrive from two countries.

• 7,175 Haitian migrants arrived in 2022
• 6,182 Cuban migrants arrived in 2022

Last year, migrants arrived in different surges throughout the year.

The Operation’s Chief of Intelligence Commander Ray Caro said the migrant surge has increased in 2023 as people from Cuba and Haiti try to:

“escape poverty, violence, human trafficking, and persecution are a few realities.”

The Florida Department of Emergency Management has captured over 1,000 migrants since the start of the year.

The White House doesn't like Governor DeSantis

This month, President Biden announced his new immigration policy as cities in the State of Texas and other southern border states with Mexico were getting overwhelmed with migrants crossing the border.

Florida is one of the 20 states that sued the Biden administration over the new immigration plan. Currently, the plan allows 30,000 migrants a month to claim asylum from the countries of Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody said the immigration plan is:

“a reckless attempt to continue flooding the country with massive waves of illegal immigrants.”

Governor Ron DeSantis has not made any friends in the White House of his political actions toward migrants. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said:

“I’m happy to repeat what I said which is Governor DeSantis has made a mockery of– of the system and– and he has consistently and constantly, as many of you have reported, has done political stunts. [He] has not helped to address the issue but has instead decided to put the lives of migrants who are coming here for a better life at risk. And that’s what we have seen from this governor.”
