Migrants Have a New App that Allows Them to Legally Enter the Country

Migrants trying to enter the United States have a new toy to use to gain legal access. The new idea was mentioned to President Joe Biden after he gave his immigration plan a week ago. The idea allows migrants to use the CBP One app.

The CBP One app, short for Customs and Border Patrol, is not a new app but was recently updated to give migrants the ability to request asylum from their smartphones. Previously, the app allowed travelers to submit their information prior to arriving at border crossings. Additionally, it allowed air travelers to submit their biological and agricultural products prior to arriving at U.S. customs inspections.

Now, the CBP-One app allows migrants to request asylum from their Apple or Android devices. The idea works well with President Biden’s plan to limit migrants to 30,000 a month to enter U.S. borders. This includes the main border crossings of Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico.

The app allows users to read the information only in English and Spanish.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said:

"When Title 42 eventually lifts, this new feature will join one of the many tools and processes this Administration is providing for individuals to seek protection in a safe, orderly, and humane manner and to strengthen the security of our borders."

Migrants will provide a photo of themself and biological information. There is also space for their family members as well.

Once the information is submitted, they will receive an appointment within 14 days at one of the eight ports of entry.

The app is to encourage fewer people from showing up at the border to claim asylum unless they have entered their information in CBP-One.
