Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has one thing to be happy about lately concerning migrants. The state of Colorado will not bus their migrants to the city.

After Colorado Governor Jared Polis and Mayor Lightfoot talked, the governor decided not to bus migrants to the city. Lightfoot is already having issues supporting the current migrants who were bused from Texas last year.

Governor Greg Abbott and El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser bused migrants to the city on multiple occasions as they were crossing the Texas-Mexican border.

This prompted President Joe Biden to finally make his first official trip to the southern border on Sunday, January 8 as he made a stop in El Paso.

Now Mayor Lightfoot can focus on her funding needs to support migrants as the state already turned her down.

    A Chicago city official said:

"Upon arrival, individuals and families are provided shelter and support to meet their basic needs. They receive in-depth case management and connections to services from City, County, State, and community-based agencies. If new arrivals are arriving at CPD districts, those individuals will be transported to a shelter. To access transport to shelter, individuals can dial 3-1-1."

State Representative Kam Buckner of the 26th District criticized the mayor and said:

"This mayor and this city has to have a plan both for asylum seekers and for communities that have been here."

As the city is still in talks on opening Woodlawn Elementary School to house migrants, Mayor Lightfoot said in a statement:

"The City is continuing to engage with the Woodlawn community and is committed to carefully balancing the needs of both our residents and new arrivals. At this time, the City has not determined a firm date on when this space will open for shelter."

Colorado is not a sanctuary state so the state will have to come up with other destinations to send migrants or find the best way to support them.

Do you think this will help Mayor Lightfoot focus on current issues with migrants?
