Colorado Governor Jared Polis began sending migrants to New York City and Chicago. The migrants initially came from Texas after crossing the Texas-Mexican border.

This caused the city of Denver to get overwhelmed and Mayor Michael Hancock declared a State of Emergency in December.

But Governor Polis said most migrants didn’t want to stay in Colorado so he bused them to other locations.

    Polis said:

"No one should play politics with the lives of migrants who came here to escape oppression, and in Colorado, we are honoring our values of treating people with dignity and respect."

Even though the governor supported migrants he wanted to do what was best and bus them to other locations.

This didn’t make two mayors happy.

In a Wednesday press conference, New York Mayor Adams said:

"One time we had to deal with Republican governors sending migrants to New York. Now we’re dealing with Democratic governors sending migrants to New York."

This was after he mentioned that Colorado Governor Jared Pivot was sending migrants to New York City and Chicago.

On “Sid & Friends in the Morning, Mayor Adams said:

"We were notified yesterday that the governor of Colorado is now stating that they are going to be sending migrants to places like New York and Chicago. This is just unfair for local governments to have to take on this national obligation."

At a Wednesday press conference, Mayor Adams said he is dealing with Republican and Democratic governors saying it is unfair.

“At one time we had to deal with Republican governors sending migrants to New York. Now we’re dealing with Democratic governors sending migrants to New York. This is just unfair.”

Even though Mayor Adams was not happy about more migrants coming to the city, a New York official was pleased. Comptroller Brad Lander said on Thursday:

“New York has thrived for generations on immigrants coming here and bringing their creativity, their entrepreneurship, their energy.”
“What you want is a growing economy. That’s why immigration has been such an important driver for the city.”

    Chicago Mayor is struggling

After the state of Illinois told Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot that they didn’t have money to help her fund migrants, the migrants from Colorado will only add to her responsibility to lead the city.

    Mayor Lightfoot said:

"We need federal support, resources, communication, and collaboration," Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said in September. "And that has to come in short order."

Then it doesn’t help Mayor Lightfoot as the city pushed back to allow migrants to be housed in a vacant school that was set to open on Friday.

Do you think the mayors have a right to be mad?
