Texas Governor Abbott Tweeted The End of Title 42 was Halted

On Monday afternoon, Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent out a tweet with good news. The U.S. Supreme Court delayed ending Title 42. This means migrants will not legally be allowed to enter U.S. borders under this Trump-era policy.

Justice John G. Roberts paused the lifting of the pandemic health order on Monday. Robert gave President Joe Biden until Tuesday at 4 p.m. Central time to respond.

The Department of Homeland Security released the following statement after the Supreme Court ordered Title 42 would remain in effect.

As required by the Supreme Court’s administrative stay order, the Title 42 public health order will remain in effect at this time, and individuals who attempt to enter the United States unlawfully will continue to be expelled to Mexico. While this stage of the litigation proceeds, we will continue our preparations to manage the border in a safe, orderly, and humane way when the Title 42 public health order lifts. We urge Congress to use this time to provide the funds we have requested for border security and management and advance the comprehensive immigration measures President Biden proposed on his first day in office.

U.S. District Judge Emmett Sullivan gave the Biden administration until December 21 before Title 42 would go away. This would have allowed thousands of migrants to cross the U.S. border. Even though the order is in effect, migrants were still crossing the border and claiming asylum to the U.S. Border Patrol.

Thousands of migrants were entering Texas in the border city of El Paso last weekend.
