Along the eastern border boundary with Mexico, as Governor Doug Ducey prepares to leave office, he leaves a mark to help secure the state from Mexican migrants. Works crews were leaving double-stacked shipping containers along the shared border.

Ducey said:

“Arizona is going to do the job that Joe Biden refuses to do — secure the border in any way we can. We’re not backing down.”

Governor-elect Katie Hobbs told Phoenix PBS TV station KAET in an interview:

“I don’t know how much it will cost to remove the containers and what the cost will be.”

For her January 5 inauguration, Hobbs hinted she may use the shipping containers as affordable housing. But she is looking at all possible options.

Federal agencies told Arizona that building on U.S. land was unlawful and ordered them to halt. On October 21, Ducey sued federal officials.

This past June, Governor Ducey signed border security legislation to protect the state.

In the letter, Governor Ducey wrote:

“Inaction by President Joe Biden has led to the worst border crisis in over 20 years. I’ve been outspoken about the impact this crisis has on Arizonans, our communities and migrants. We’ve taken numerous steps to help resolve the chaos, including deploying the Arizona National Guard, signing legislation to address human smuggling and transporting migrants on a voluntary basis to Washington, D.C. Ultimately, however, securing our border is the responsibility of the federal government… With this investment, we are giving our law enforcement professionals another critical resource they need to successfully do their jobs. We are standing up for the rule of law, and we are cementing Arizona’s commitment to securing our state and our entire nation.”

Governor-elect Hobbs will have her hands full as she tries to control the entry of migrants which will likely increase after Title 42 ends on December 21.

President Joe Biden was recently in Phoenix, but he did not visit the southern border, a trip he has never made.

What do you think Governor-elect Hobbs should do when she comes into office?
