Over 700 Migrants Were Restless and Decided to Cross the Texas Border

As migrants wait for Article 42 to end this month, some couldn’t wait any longer and decided to enter Texas early Thursday morning at Eagle Pass. Eagle Pass is about 140 miles southeast of San Antonio.

The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol stated 704 migrants entered the United States illegally. According to KXAN NBC, the Border Patrol agents encountered the migrants at 3:20 am.

Article 42 is still in effect until December 21. This Trump-era policy forbids foreign nationals from entering the United States due to COVID. U.S. Federal District Judge Emmet Sullivan gave President Joe Biden five weeks to prepare for the end of the policy.

Border Patrol released this breakdown of the foreign nationals who illegally crossed the border:

• 535 Cubans
• 74 Nicaraguans
• 49 Colombians
• 31 Dominicans
• nine Peruvians
• three Ecuadorians
• three Mexicans

Out of this group, there were 320 single males, 190 single females, 74 family members, and 12 unaccompanied children.

Many migrants are seeking to claim asylum as they left their country that is experiencing horrible conditions.

Eagle Pass is part of the Del Rio sector and the border patrol said this sector is the main area that migrants were crossing to enter the country. Last year, Del Rio took the number one spot from the Rio Grande Valley sector. The Rio Grande Valley is further west of Del Rio.

President Biden faced backlash after he made a recent trip to Arizona and refused to visit the border which he has never done.

On the trip, Biden visited Phoenix to check on the Chip making process and said:

"Because there are more important things going on. They’re going to invest billions of dollars in a new enterprise."

Del Rio may be a good location for the National Guard to use the 10 military vehicles that Governor Greg Abbott requested.

Title 42 ends in about two weeks.
