Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's idea to fly migrants to a sanctuary city seems to have backfired. Immigrant rights groups have filed a lawsuit against him. The 28-page lawsuit was filed last Thursday, December 1, 2022.

You may recall Republican Governor DeSantis flew migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.

The lawsuit claims DeSantis through Perla Huerta recruited migrants to board the flight for Martha’s Vineyard.

According to CNN, the lawsuit states:

“Florida’s attempts to create its own immigration system came to a head on September 14, 2022, when individuals acting at the direction of defendants sowed chaos and confusion by fraudulently inducing approximately 50 Venezuelan and Peruvian migrants, all of whom had been processed into the US by immigration authorities, into taking a flight from Texas to Massachusetts, falsely promising them aid, jobs, and more.”

The lawsuit was filed against Governor DeSantis and the state Transportation Secretary Jared Perdue by the Florida Immigrant Coalition, Americans for Immigrant Justice, and Hope Community Center.

Representatives from Martha’s Vineyard welcomed the migrants but then realized they did not have the resources to house, feed, provide medical attention, and legal services. So they were transported to a Cape Cod military base.

DeSantis’s move is similar to Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, Arizona Republican Governor Doug Ducey, and El Paso Democratic Mayor Oscar Leeser who bussed migrants to sanctuary cities including Washington, D.C., New York City, and Chicago.

Governor Abbott recently added to this list and started busing migrants to Philadelphia.

Abbott began busing migrants to Washington, D.C. in the spring to show Democratic President Joe Biden the issue he was dealing with as migrants were crossing the Texas-Mexican border.

Do you think Governor DeSantis should be charged for his act?
