Governor Abbott Gives the National Guard Praise For Stopping 26,000 Smugglers
2022-12-01
On Monday, November 29, Texas Governor Greg Abbott gave a shout-out to the Texas National Guard for their selfless service. They have stopped thousands of migrants from illegally crossing the Texas-Mexican border.
On Twitter, Governor Abbott tweeted:
"The Texas National Guard has blocked over 26,000 potential smuggling events since March 2021. The Lone Star State continues to do more than any state in HISTORY to secure our border."
Fox News tried to get more specific details on the 26,000 but there was no response.
But work along the border has not been easy. And, it’s about to get worse when Title 42 is lifted on December 21. Migrants are waiting along the border in Mexico since they are aware of this date.
According to Fox News, a Border Patrol agent said it was rough for agents:
"Record annual encounters have led to untenable situations. In Arizona, shelters have been forced well beyond capacity. This month, El Paso has seen over 700 migrants released directly onto city streets due to overcrowding. This is not safe, and creates a dangerous situation for migrants and communities."
Mayorkas said the border was secure and that the agency had things under control.
He said:
"What we are doing is precisely what we announced we would do in April of this year, and we have indeed been executing on the plan.”
This video provides more details on the issue with Title 42:
With the end of Title 42, it is possible the National Guard will see more stress and confusion as the migrants cross the Texas-Mexican border.Abbott authorized 10 military vehicles to assist them but that may not be enough.
What do you think Governor Abbott should do to help the Texas National Guard?
