All the news is on Governor Greg Abbott bussing migrants to sanctuary cities draws a lot of attention. But recently, one Texas town is closely matching the number of people Abbott has bussed out of Texas. El Paso has been on the news lately as migrants overwhelmed its own system. And, the Democratic Mayor, Oscar Leeser, has bussed about 8,800 migrants to sanctuary cities. As of September 9, Governor Abbott had bussed more than 10,000 migrants.

Since July, according to The City, El Paso started offering free bus rides to migrants if they wanted to travel to New York City or Chicago. El Paso has bussed about 7,000 migrants to New York and about 1,800 to Chicago.

Governor Abbott started bussing migrants to Washington, D.C. in April, and then New York on August 1 and Chicago on September 1. This caused all three cities to request federal support and Washington, D.C. and Chicago declared a public emergency.

Commissioner David Stout compared some of the tactics El Paso used is similar to what Governor Abbott is doing. Migrants are offered a free bus ride but then given very little food for the 43-hour bus trip. Migrants who arrived in New York said they would have never have agreed to the bus ride if they knew the length of the trip.

One female migrant who goes by the name Wuelsy said:

“If my husband, my 12-year-old son and I had known what that trip was going to be like, we would not have gotten on the bus.”

Stout said:

“We might as well be working with Greg Abbott. It’s the same shit.”

Mayor Leeser said they provide more coordination with the sanctuary cities, but the process is still very similar to Governor Abbott’s method.

Do you think El Paso is treating the migrants as the rest of Texas?
