Since Texas began bussing migrants from Washington, D.C., New York, and most recently Chicago, Governor Greg Abbott offered the East coast mayors to come to Texas to see the border issue he is facing. Mayor Eric Adams initially declined but now he is sending a delegation to Texas to get a first-hand look at the border.

The New York delegation wants to talk to local Texans to get answers on the current border situation.

Abbot's office reported they bussed 1,900 migrants to New York City which has overwhelmed the city homeless shelters and non-profits. Adams has requested support from the Biden administration but little has been provided.

Press secretary Fabian Levy said in a statement:

"We’ve sent members of the team down on a fact-finding mission to hear directly from folks on the ground along the southern border and get the real answers we’re not getting from Texas, including whether they are sending asylum seekers to New York City even if they prefer to go elsewhere.”
"Here in New York, we will continue to welcome asylum seekers with open arms, as we learn more about the process, meet with real partners, and see, firsthand, the reportedly inhumane conditions in which asylum seekers are being subjected to by the state of Texas.”

Mayor Adams said in a New York Post op-ed:

"Adams talked the talk about being a sanctuary city — welcoming illegal immigrants into the Big Apple with warm hospitality. Talk is cheap. When pressed into fulfilling such ill-considered policies, he wants to condemn anyone who is pressing him to walk the walk."

Governor Abbott’s press secretary Renae Eze said in a statement that the offer was still open for Adams to see the border:

"Governor Abbott’s invitation is still open for Mayor Adams to come visit our southern border and see firsthand the devastating impacts of the Biden-made crisis on border towns smaller than a NYC borough — instead of sending his staffers on a secret trip to Texas."

Last month, Adams said:

"It’s the worst type of politics. It’s hateful politics to raise his national profile and, you know what, you should not be doing it by taking away the respect and dignity of people who are in need."

And since coming into office, President Joe Biden has not visited the Texas border to get a first-hand look of the situation. Governor Abbott has asked for support repeatedly from the Biden administration but has not received any.

Do you think the New York delegation will convince Mayor Adams to make a trip to Texas himself?
