Mayor Adams complained about Governor Abbott and Arizona Governor Doug Ducey who have sent migrants from their states to New York City. This is in response to President Biden not providing legal authority to send them back to Mexico.
Now, Adams’ city is getting overrun as he says with about 4,000 people from Latin America and other regions.
In a statement, Mayor Adams said:
"New York has been and will always be a city of immigrants that welcomes newcomers with open arms. This value has made our city a beacon of freedom for people around the world and the economic and cultural powerhouse that it is. These very same humanitarian values apply to those who are experiencing homelessness. In New York City, we have both a moral — and legal — obligation to house anyone who is experiencing homelessness for any reason."
“Now the people who are sending people away, they tell you they did something differently and automatically you believe them? I want you to treat me that way.”
“You believe them? You know, the mere fact that they sent people out of their state — people who are seeking refuge in our country — they sent them away.”
“All of us came from somewhere. Even from Texas, they came from somewhere. And so, they should not have sent people away that was seeking refuge.”
“So, they want to justify that in their own little way of saying, ‘We, we sent them to Washington’ so they could do a layover and then come to New York — they can say what they want.”
“They were wrong. They ended up here because they didn’t get the support there.”
In response, Governor Abbott’s press secretary Renae Eze said:
“Mayor Adams should check with President Biden if his administration is the one dumping migrants in his city, as they’ve been doing to Texas border towns for months.”
