Texas is a no-tax state, but the state of Texas makes up for this in property taxes. The State uses part of the taxes to send migrants from Texas to Washington, D.C. This is part of the border crossings that frequently occur from Mexico to Texas.

This is Governor Greg Abbott’s initiative, which he unveiled in early April. The policy sends busloads of undocumented immigrants to Washington, D.C.

Abbott said this would:

"help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigrants."

Then last week, the largest group of migrants was reported in Del Rio on the outskirts of San Antonio.

Mexico granted federal humanitarian permits to 15,000 U.S.-bound third-country migrants which is the largest migrant count in Mexican history.

The current cost of the plan is about $1,400 per rider according to Dallas-Fort Worth NBC 5. In total, the cost is over $1.6 million from April and May this year to send 1,154 migrants to the nation’s capital.

Normally, a person can travel on a one-way ticket on a bus or train at a cost of $200 to $300. For this fair, it is much higher.

NBC 5 reported this was even higher than a first-class ticket is around $800 to $900. This is also more than it costs to send a child to school for an entire school year.

The reason for the high cost is the use of security guards that escort the migrants to the Capital region.

"Security-related expenses alone topped $1 million in the early weeks of the program, according to [Texas Division of Emergency Management] records."

Then the buses return to Texas mostly empty after unloading the majority of passengers.

Texas gets billed for the entire mileage for travel.

Governor Abbott’s office launched an online donation page to help defray some of the costs. Several people have made private donations to support the transportation but that amount is only $112,842 as of May 27. So the cost of transporting migrants has mostly come from Texas citizens.

The Majority of Migrants are not Mexican

Texas Author and National Security Fellow Todd Bensman shared his thoughts on the migrants.

He said:

They are primarily Venezuelans, Colombians, Cubans and Middle Easterners, and Africans.

Are you happy that your tax dollars are used to send migrants from Texas to Washington, D.C.?
