Texas GOP Challenger has a Confrontation in the Airport Over a Mask

2021-11-05

Wearing a mask seems to be a hot issue these days as Allen West can tell you. West plans to challenge Governor Greg Abbott in next year’s election.

While at the Dallas Airport, West was confronted by a complete stranger for not wearing a mask as reported by NBC News.

"This morning at the airport a man starts yelling at me and tells me to put my mask on and calls me an idiot," West wrote on Twitter. "I walked over to him and asked if he called me an idiot, he continued to yell at me. I pulled down his mask and said see, nothing happened."

Weather you wear a mask or not will get strange looks from people these days.

This became so bad that the stranger wanted to fight West. West knew better and walked away.

"He put up his fists and I walked away. I did call him a stupid man," West tweeted. "I have spoken to DFW PD. There’s no mask law, nothing has ever passed in the US House and Senate making wearing a mask law."

The Republican challenger for governor was released about a month ago from

Medical City Plano after coming down with COVID-19.

West said he didn’t need to wear a mask but the Transportation security Administration (TSA) says otherwise.

Until January 18, 2022, TSA requires travelers to wear masks on "all transportation networks throughout the United States, including at airports, onboard commercial aircraft, on over-the-road buses, and on commuter bus and rail systems."

The former State Republican Executive Committe chairman made his announcement to run for governor on July 4, 2021. He has served a year holding this position after he beat incumbent James Dickey.

West is a supported of former President Donald Trump but he said, "You know, I don't serve President Trump. I serve God, country and Texas. So that does not affect me whatsoever."

West previously served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. From 2011 to 2013 West served in the U.S. House of Representatives for Florida’s 22d congressional district.

West has the experience to challenge Abbott for his seat. Other challengers such as Matthew McConaughey has mentioned running for office but he cannot be considered completely out of the race.

The former Florida representative and military officer continue to get his name out there since the election for Texas Governor are a year away.
