Haitians have had a rough year and some are crossing the border into Texas. In August, there was an earthquake in Haiti, and their president, President Jovenel Moise was assassinated in July. They are trying to escape the crime and natural disaster that is wrecking their country.

Most of those migrants trying to cross the border are Haitians and Central Americans.

Hundreds of Haitians are getting apprehended along the Texas side of the Rio Grande in Del Rio. Last week, Haitians along the Mexican side rushed the border. This became a battleground for the Border Patrol trying to prevent their entrance.

Austin's Governor Greg Abbott has asked President Biden for assistance. Between July and August, there have been over 200,000 migrants trying to cross the border.

Earlier this year, Governor Abbott picked up where President Trump left off. He wanted to continue building the wall along the Texas and Mexican border.

Governor Abbott said, "If they're thinking about coming and crossing this river here in Texas, you may end up with handcuffs on your hands and going straight to jail rather than being released into the general population."

The Governor added that they will change tactics to keep up with migrants trying to cross in different areas.

"We will continue moving law enforcement and National Guard officials to whatever location where people may be trying to cross the border and use the same strategy to try and reduce the influx, unprecedented, of people coming across the border."

Governor Abbott criticized the response he has received from the Biden administration.

"The only thing they've shown is an incapability of dealing with this crisis, candidly in a way where they pretend it doesn’t even exist," the Republican governor said at a press conference. "And we’re here to tell you, it exists and it's total chaos and the Biden administration- they need to up their game, big time."

Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick said,

"They’re not telling anyone the truth. Number one, they said they were sending in 500 agents to help when Border Patrol called Texas to help and now Border Patrol has admitted without Texas' help we couldn’t have been able to stop them coming across the border swelling above the 12,000 that are still there. So that hasn’t happened yet because they have a hard time getting agents. Number two they say they are shipping them back to Haiti. Only single men and single girls; About 2,000 single men, 500 single girls. The other 8 or 9,000 they’re going to ship around the country to a city near you wherever you’re watching and whatever state."

Then there is a rumor that the Border Patrol is using whips and lassos against the immigrants.

We have seen horrifying images of horse-mounted border enforcement agents using horse reins to whip migrants on the shores of the Rio Grande. This response to migrants is unacceptable,” said Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa. “The mistreatment of migrants at the border or in custody is something that we as Democrats profoundly condemn and the Biden Administration takes these allegations very seriously and has directed an investigation into these actions.”

Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar shared his response on CNN to clarify what the Border Patrol was doing.

"Certainly, we got to make sure we treat all the immigrants with respect and dignity, but I will say this. Border Patrol has had those horse brigades for a while. They’ve had them for a while, number one. Number two, they don’t carry whips, and they do not carry lassos."

In the video, the Wite House gives their response on the supposed whips used on Haitians.
