    A Michigan bomb squad detonated a homemade bomb brought into a police station by a concerned citizen on Monday afternoon.

    The initial call came into the NCSO around 2:35 pm. Local police contacted the sheriff's office to report a citizen found what they believed to be a homemade firework by the side of the road. The citizen picked up the device and brought it to the police station in their vehicle

    An officer went to the parking lot to check it out and determined it was not fireworks, but a homemade explosive. Since the bomb was found outside of the city limits, the NPD called the sheriff's office.

    When deputies arrived at the police station to pick up the device, they determined it was not fireworks but a homemade bomb. They immediately called for the fire department and Michigan State Police Bomb Squad. The fire department closed down all the roads near City Hall to protect citizens.

    Michigan State Police Bomb Squad took the device to a secure location to detonate safely. MSP used K9 trained in explosive detection to search the area where the bomb was originally found but didn't locate anything suspicious.

    Sheriff Bob Mendham reminded citizens not to pick up suspicious packages but to instead call 911.
