A young man was critically injured following a drive-by shooting in the 2300 block of Rhoads Avenue.

According to the police, a caller reported that his brother had been shot.

Living in a neighborhood close to the city but far enough away to avoid the crime, wasn't the case for this family.

Nora Thacker-Welch, a neighbor, told SCDN that they heard gunshots followed by screams coming from their back yard where they were sitting after doing yard work.

In addition, she stated that there were younger children in the neighbor's home at the time of the incident, which could have resulted in even more tragedy.

Nora, a lifelong resident of the area, said it's sad to see what the community has come to with all of the recent gun violence.

The young man's condition was last reported to be critical.
