Democrats Distancing Themselves as Confidence in Biden and a Second Term Dwindles
2022-06-13
For the first time since the 2020 election, Democrats are beginning to distance themselves from Joe Biden
Author’s Note:
The following unbiased article was written by the fully accredited and degreed professional journalist, Kurt Dillon. It is fully sourced and linked to direct reports from: The New York Times, The Associated Press, Former Deputy White House Cabinet Secretary Cristobal Alex, and Florida gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried.
In that article, Epstein, and Medina report: “Midway through the 2022 primary season, many Democratic lawmakers and party officials are venting their frustrations with President Joe Biden’s struggle to advance the bulk of his agenda, doubting his ability to rescue the party from a predicted midterm trouncing and increasingly viewing him as an anchor that should be cut loose in 2024.”
The duo of reporters go on to say: “As the challenges facing the nation mount and fatigued base voters show low enthusiasm, Democrats in union meetings, the backrooms of Capitol Hill, and party gatherings from coast to coast are quietly worrying about Biden’s leadership, his age, and his capability to take the fight to former President Donald Trump a second time.”
Interviews with nearly 50 democratic officials, from county leaders to members of Congress, as well as with disappointed voters who backed Biden in 2020, reveal a party alarmed about Republicans rising strength and extraordinary pet extraordinarily pessimistic about the immediate path forward
“To say our country was on the right track would flagrantly depart from reality,” said Steve Simeonidis, a Democratic National Committee member for Miami. Biden, he said, “should announce his intent not to seek reelection in ‘24 right after the midterms.”
Articles such as this Times piece, along with the consistently ominous daily poll numbers we’ve reported on in articles over the past week, including: Biden’s Approval Ratings Hit Record Lows as Increasing Number of Democrats Add to Disapproval Numbers, and Midterm Polls Put Georgia Going Red, have been suggesting this democratic departure from the sitting President for some time now. This, however, is the first one we’ve seen from a traditionally left-biased media outlet citing quotes from high-ranking Democrats willing to affix their names to the quotes.
However, while more and more Democrats are deciding to speak out, functionally distancing themselves from the president, most simply refuse to comment on the issue – either in support or opposition, which in and of itself speaks volumes.
Former senior advisor to the Biden campaign and former deputy Cabinet secretary in the White House until last month, Cristobal Alex, said in an interview with the Times, “It is the responsibility of congressional Democrats to highlight Biden’s successes and pass legislation that he, and most of them, campaigned on.” He went on to say, “ I am worried that leaders I the party aren’t more aggressively touting the success of the administration. The narrative needs to shift, and that can only happen with a powerful echo chamber combined with action in Congress on remaining priorities. The American people feel unsettled.”
Truer words have never been spoken.
Florida Democratic Gubernatorial hopeful Nikki Fried said in a statement that she would welcome the president to campaign with her in the Sunshine State but tellingly stopped short of endorsing him to run for a second term. Instead, she simply said, “There’s a lot of time between now and 2024.”
Perhaps even more telling is the fact that in January, a poll taken by The Associated Press amongst voting Democrats revealed at that time, only 48% of Democrats wanted Biden to run again.
We were unable to find any current polling that specifically addresses whether Dems want Biden to run for a second term. However, based on the last AP poll to address the issue in January, and taking into account the ominous issues plaguing virtually every economic thermometer in America, which have exponentially escalated over the 6 months since that poll, we believe it’s fair to assume that number has probably changed, and almost certainly not for the better.
