Officials say Alberto Montemayor, 34, of Montemayor Trucking in Delano was arrested for stealing around 42,000 pounds of pistachios from an agricultural company on Friday and booked in Tulare County for the incident.As During the month of June, the Touchstone Pistachio Company ran through its routine audit earlier this month, something wasn’t adding up.More than 42,000 pounds of pistachios had vanished.

The company soon enlisted the sheriff’s office in Tulare County, Calif, for help and on Saturday. Officials say , investigative leads in Fresno and Kern County helped detectives discover that the tractor trailer containing pistachios had been moved from the Montemayor Trucking lot into a nearby area.

Detectives say that pistachios from 2,000 pounds sacks were being put into smaller bags for re-sale.

Officials say the remaining pistachios from this incident were returned to the Touchstone Pistachio Company.The man arrested for allegedly stealing 42,000 pounds of pistachios in June could face up to three years and eight months in prison, according to the district attorney’s office.

Officials say Alberto Montemayor, 35, is being charged with grand theft of vegetables and fruits and receiving stolen property.

Montemayor, of Montemayor Trucking, in Delano was arrested and booked in Tulare County after detectives say they discovered he had been stealing and re-selling pistachios from Touchstone Pistachio Company.

Officials say Montemayor is currently out of custody but is set to appear in Superior Court on July 15, 2021.
